  • Drive from Dehradun/Rishikesh to Gangotri (approx. 9–10 hours)

  • Acclimatization day

  • Visit Gangotri Temple and surrounding areas

  • Overnight stay in guesthouse/tent

  • Trek Distance: ~14 km | Duration: 6–7 hours

  • Trail follows the Bhagirathi River through Chirbasa

  • Gradual ascent, with stunning views of Mt. Shivling and Bhagirathi peaks

  • Overnight in tents at Bhojwasa

  • Trek Distance: ~10 km | Duration: 6–7 hours

  • Visit Gaumukh Glacier (source of Ganga)

  • Steep ascent from Gaumukh to Tapovan via glacial moraine

  • Tapovan offers panoramic views of Mt. Shivling, Meru, Bhagirathi peaks

  • Overnight in tents at Tapovan

  • Rest and explore Tapovan meadows

  • Optional hike to Meru Base Camp or closer to Shivling

  • Photography, meditation, or simply enjoy the serenity

  • Overnight in tents

  • Trek back via same route

  • Duration: 5–6 hours

  • Overnight in tents at Bhojwasa

  • Trek to Gangotri (5–6 hours), then drive back

  • Can break the return journey at Uttarkashi or continue to Rishikesh

About the Gaumukh Tapovan Trek

The Gaumukh Tapovan Trek is a stunning high-altitude adventure in Uttarakhand’s Gangotri National Park. Starting from Gangotri, the trail leads to Gaumukh—the sacred source of the Ganges—before ascending to the serene alpine meadow of Tapovan. At 14,640 ft, Tapovan offers breathtaking views of Mount Shivling, Bhagirathi peaks, and surrounding glaciers. This trek combines spiritual significance with dramatic Himalayan scenery, crossing forests, moraines, and glaciers. Ideal for nature lovers and trekkers seeking both challenge and peace, it’s a perfect blend of natural beauty and spiritual energy in the heart of the Garhwal Himalayas. Best visited from May to June or September to October.
